WILL BAD RISK DRIVE OUT GOOD QC?
As the expiration date for EQC draws closer, US labs await the details about its replacement. Based on the approaches outlined in CLSI EP23A, it appears that laboratories will have a choice between performing robust Risk Analysis and a more minimal effort. What might that mean for quality?

Dr. Westgard and the VAN SLYKE AWARD 2012
Dr. Westgard was honored with the 2012 Van Slyke Award from the New York Metro chapter of the AACC. At the ceremony, Dr. Westgard made remarks on the evolution of laboratory testing and compared the "new" quality management approaches of decades past with the "new" quality management approaches of today.

SIGMA-METRIC STUDIES FOR HBA1C
It's not often that we have the time or the opportunity to get a second look at instrument performance, but here is one case where we did. A Lab Med Online study assessed the performance of the Menarini/Arkray Adams HbA1c analyzer. We calculate some Sigma-metrics based on that data and compare it to a previous study.

Then we look at two POC HbA1c devices. Many devices out there claim that they achieve "lab quality" results. Here's an assessment that puts that claim to the test.
